Curriculum and NCEA rollout slowed
On 19 April 2023 Minister of Education, Jan Tinetti announced the Government is prioritising maths, literacy, te reo Māori and pāngarau learning while shifting the timeframes of other changes to NCEA and the national curriculum.
Literacy & Communication and Maths Strategy addresses inequities
The Literacy & Communication and Maths Strategy seeks to address persistent inequities in the system and declines in achievement in some groups.
The strategy draws on a range of research and evidence, alongside conversations with groups and individuals from the education sector and wider communities, with a particular focus on learners that evidence shows us are least well served by our system.
New home for NCEA
The Ministry of Education launched a new website for NCEA in late 2020. The new website NCEA.education.govt.nz will be the home for all things NCEA as the Ministry of Education progresses with the Review of Achievement Standards.
Digital Assessment: NCEA Online
NZQA is working towards moving external student assessment to an online environment.
In 2019, 14 subjects are being offered online in end-of-year exams with the range of subjects expanding from 2020 and beyond.
Technology Online webinar – NCEA levels 2 and 3 digital technologies standard
Hear Julie McMahon (HOD Technology, St Hilda’s College) and John Creighton (HOF Technology, Burnside High School) discuss these revised assessment tools and how they can be utilised in programmes of learning.
Geography – new Assessment Resources now available
Following updates to the achievement standards, we have now created new assessment resources for 1.6, 2.2, 2.5, 2.6 and 2.7.
Chemistry
New Chemistry achievement standards 91161 and 91162 create greater curriculum alignment.
Digital Technologies and Hangarau Matihiko
DT&HM Level 2 and 3 achievement standards and resources now available
